The Maharashtra government has decided to pay the last rites of Captain Deepak Sathe, the pilot of the Air India Express plane which crashed in Kerala last week with state honors. This information was given in the office of CM Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday. The last rites of Captain Sathe (58), living in Chandivali, Mumbai, will be performed in Mumbai this afternoon. CM Headquarters praised Sathe and said that his life will inspire young pilots to get 'Sword of Honor'.
Air India Express plane coming from Dubai with 190 passengers including six crew members on board crashed on Friday night. The aircraft fell into a 35-foot-deep moat after it slipped off the runway while landing at Kozhikode Airport amid heavy rain and broke into two pieces. In that accident, 18 people, including both pilots, died.
The CM office tweeted, "The state government has decided to perform the last rites of the late Wing Commander (Retd) Captain Deepak Sathe with state honors. His life has been one that will inspire many young pilots to get a grip on the'Sword of Honor"' and Gagan. Was brought here on a plane on Sunday. His body was placed at the Air India center of Terminal 2 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport before being brought to Bhabha Hospital. Sathe was a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force and has participated in the flight test installation of the force.
