Mumbai: Maharashtra's Uddhav Thackeray government has decided to provide reservation to the economically weaker sections of the Maratha community. According to a new order issued by the state government, the Maratha community has joined the economically weaker section. This will be followed by 10 percent reservation in government jobs and education.

The General Administration Department (GAD) in Mumbai has also issued an order in this regard in Mumbai. Under the new order, members of the Maratha community will be able to avail benefits within 10 per cent of government jobs and education under EWS reservation. Under this, a person who meets the conditions of EWS quota, who is not included in any other reservation category, will get the benefit of reservation.

According to media reports, the EWS quota will apply to the community amid a verdict from the Supreme Court from September 9, 2020 to May 5 this year. On the other hand, the EWS quota will be applicable to SEBC candidates whose appointments were already pending. At present, 10 percent EWS quota is being issued to the society for a class that is not included in any other kind of reservation.
