Mumbai: There is a different enthusiasm for Shri Krishna Janmashtami in Maharashtra. This enthusiasm of the people has now been doubled by the Shinde government of the state. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has decided to give Dahi-Handi the status of an adventure sport and the BJP-Shiv Sena government is preparing to give a big gift to Govindas this time too. According to media reports, the Shinde government of Maharashtra has given a precious gift of Shri Krishna Janmashtami to the entire state on Thursday, August 18, a day before Janmashtami.
CM Shinde has announced that now the Dahi-handi festival will also get the status of adventure sport. At the same time, all the Govindas participating in it will also be given special compensation from the government and a chance to get a government job from the sports quota. On the same issue, CM Eknath Shinde has said in the Assembly today, ''The Maharashtra government has decided to recognize the human pyramid to be built for the Dahi Handi festival as an adventure sport. With this recognition, the players joining the festival will be eligible to apply for government jobs under the sports quota.''
CM Shinde further said that in case of the unfortunate death of a participant during the construction of the human pyramid, his family members will be given Rs 10 lakh as compensation from the state government. Apart from this, a reward of Rs 7 lakh will be given to the player who is seriously injured and Rs 5 lakh to the player with a fracture. He further said that the state government will also bear the medical expenses of 'Govinda' (participants) in case they get hurt. After two years of restrictions, this time the Dahi Handi festival will be celebrated on a large scale in the state, as the government has lifted all corona-related restrictions.
