MUMBAI: Farmers who trade milk in Maharashtra are looking very agitated for the past few days. They say that they are not getting the proper price of milk. Most of the protests have been seen in Shirdi and Akola. In Akola, where the farmers who were demonstrating shed milk on the streets, the cow was anointed with milk in Shirdi. Earlier, the farmer leaders of Maharashtra had already warned of a statewide agitation today.
While giving information on Friday, farmer leader Ajit Navale had said that even before this, milk-producing farmers had started the movement to throw milk to warn the government. During this protest, the farmers reached the milk collection center and dumped the entire milk on the road. This movement lasted for 2 days and its impact was seen all over Maharashtra.
In view of this movement, the government of Mahavikas Aghadi had also held a meeting with the farmers, but this meeting did not yield any positive results. The farmers had also warned the government at that time that if the government does not pay attention to their demands, they will launch a fierce movement. Today, on August 1, farmers are starting this movement. There is a demand of farmers that the state government gives them a grant of milk at the rate of Rs. 10 per liter. They are not getting a fair price of milk at the time of lockdown.
