Former Lok Sabha member and TMC leader Mahua Moitra has responded to questions from the CBI regarding allegations of corruption in her parliamentary actions, officials reported on Thursday. The CBI is currently reviewing Moitra's responses and plans to forward a report to the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal, which initially referred the case to the agency.

The CBI's inquiry stems from a preliminary examination prompted by Lokpal's referral concerning allegations against Moitra.

Additionally, the CBI has reportedly interviewed lawyer Jai Dehadrai and businessman Darshan Hiranandani as part of its investigation.

Nishikant Dubey, a BJP Lok Sabha MP, had accused Moitra of using her parliamentary questions to target the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in exchange for favors from businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Dubey also alleged that Moitra compromised national security for personal gain.

Moitra vehemently denies these accusations, asserting that she is being unfairly targeted due to her scrutiny of the Adani group's activities.

In response to recent developments, Moitra criticized the lack of transparency in the process, highlighting the absence of official announcements from either Lokpal or the CBI. She expressed hope that the CBI will prioritize investigating the alleged Rs.13,000 crore Adani coal scam over what she perceives as a politically motivated "witch hunt."
