A major accident took place in the Bangladesh capital on Thursday. A fire broke out in a 6-storey factory here. 40 persons were killed in the accident while about 30 persons are injured and many are still missing. Several people jumped down from the burning building to save lives. There was a fire on the upper floors of the factory. It is yet to be ascertained how many persons are trapped inside. However, those who came out have expressed apprehension that it is difficult for the persons trapped inside the factory to escape.
The police said, a fire broke out at the Food and Beverage Factory in Rupganj area around 5 pm on Thursday. The fire could not be controlled till Friday morning. Fire department and police officials said that 25 persons have been rescued so far. Nothing can be said about the number of deaths. Once the fire is controlled, a search operation will be conducted inside the factory. Officials said several people have suffered burns and many others were injured when they jumped from the building.

A labourer said dozens of labourers were present in the factory at the time of the fire. Fire cases are common in Bangladesh due to non-compliance of security rules. In February last year also, some apartments in Dhaka caught fire. 70 persons lost their lives in the accident till now.
