Her mother was a resident of Nepal. Mala's childhood name was Alda. When she went to school, her friends used to call her as Dalda. At the same time, Mala's parents called her baby. That's why many friends started calling him Dalda Sinha and many Baby Sinha. Mala did not like both these names at all. Therefore, she changed her name to Mala Sinha.
