Kochi: Malayalam actor Vinayakan has come under fire for making distasteful comments about the late Kerala Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Oommen Chandy. A case has been filed against Vinayakan by a Congress leader from Ernakulam after the actor uploaded an offensive video on Facebook during the procession carrying Oommen Chandy's body to his native place.

In the video, Vinayakan criticized the Malayalam media for focusing on the slow progress of the procession and questioned the rationale behind a three-day state-wide mourning for the late leader. He also made controversial remarks about Oommen Chandy and mentioned another late Congress leader, K Karunakaran, further infuriating party workers and sympathizers.

The video was later taken down due to the backlash it received. Congress (I) Ernakulam District general secretary Ajit Ameer Bava filed a complaint against the actor with the Assistant City Police Commissioner. Additionally, cyber attacks targeting Vinayakan have been reported.

Oommen Chandy, who served as Kerala's Chief Minister twice, passed away at the age of 79 while undergoing cancer treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday. His funeral procession faced significant delays as thousands of Keralites thronged the route to pay their respects, turning what would normally be a three to four-hour journey into over 27 hours.
