New Delhi: Newly-elected Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has finally answered the BJP's question which the saffron party has often asked what happened in the country in the 70 years since Independence, in which the country was ruled by the Congress for most of the time. Kharge responded by citing examples of political events like Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister and himself becoming the national president of the Congress.
Kharge said that it was the Congress which saved democracy in the country for 70 years, due to which Narendra Modi could become the Prime Minister and I the National President of the Congress. Let us tell you that Mallikarjun Kharge was addressing a public meeting in Banka, Bihar after flagging off the over 1000 km long Yatra of the Congress. Let us inform you that on the lines of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress is taking out this yatra in Bihar. It will pass through most parts of the state. This was Kharge's first visit to Bihar after becoming the Congress President. During this, Kharge blamed the Modi government at the Center for unemployment. Along with this, he also accused the BJP of dividing the country on religious issues.
Mallikarjun Kharge further said, 'It is often alleged that Congress did nothing while ruling the country for 70 years after independence. It was the Congress that nurtured democracy. This is the reason why it was possible for Narendra Modi, who comes from a simple society, to become the PM and a poor man's son like me is leading the country's oldest party today. At the same time, on this statement of Kharge, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has taunted. He wrote, 'Yes, especially during the Emergency! Congress was saving the Constitution!' Let us tell you that, the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi is considered as a dark chapter of India, when many rights of the common man were snatched away and every voice raised against the government was silenced by putting them in jail.
