Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) has won a landslide victory in the West Bengal assembly elections. This has been followed by action against defection leaders who left TMC before the elections in Hooghly district and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The latest case relates to Sumana Sarkar, co-chairman of Hooghly Zilla Parishad and former President of Hooghly District Trinamool Youth Congress, whose official office at Hooghly Zilla Parishad has been locked by TMC.
Sumana was not given a ticket from the Balagarh assembly seat by TMC and in his place, TMC fielded an entertainment trader as his candidate. Angered by this, she left the TMC at the hands of BJP National Vice President Mukul Roy and took over the BJP. But there too, Sumana suffered a mouth-to-face, after which she remained absolutely neutral in the assembly elections.
But TMC seems to have made up his mind to take on defection leaders. His official office at Hooghly Zilla Parishad was locked late on Friday evening. Since Sumana Sarkar had reached the Zilla Parishad on a TMC ticket, Sumana Sarkar has once been very close to TMC MP and Indian Trinamool Youth Congress President Abhishek Banerjee.
