For the last four days, violent protests have been going on in Bengal against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Citizenship Register (NRC). Internet service was stopped on Monday for the second day in six districts. Meanwhile, on Monday afternoon, the state Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee herself took to the road in protest against this law and led the procession. Speaking out against the central government, Mamata reiterated her resolve to not allow the CAA to be implemented, saying, "As long as I am alive, the NRC and CAA will not be implemented."

According to media reports, the procession under the leadership of Mamta started near the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar at Dharmatalla in the metropolis and concluded at Jlas Nehru Road, Chittaranjan Avenue via Jotasanko Thakurbari. Thousands of people from different sections participated in the procession.

Addressing the gathering, at the end of the procession, Mamta said - 'As long as I am alive, the NRC and CAA will not be implemented. Challenging the Center to sack his government, the Chief Minister said - "If you are not tolerant, then you sack my government or put me behind bars but I will never let this black law be implemented." Till this law is withdrawn, our opposition will continue in a constitutional manner.

Apart from this, Mamta said that BJP has given money to some people to incite violence in the state. Some forces outside the state are pretending to be friends of the Muslim community and they are involved in sabotage and arson. The Trinamool supremo cautioned the workers and said that these forces which spread violence are puppets in the hands of the BJP. Do not get caught in their trap.
