Mamata Banerjee to contest assembly elections again after defeat in Nandigram

Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will contest the assembly elections once again. Mamata Banerjee had contested from Nandigram seat in the run up to the West Bengal assembly elections but was defeated by BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari. However, Mamata Banerjee's party Trinamool Congress had won the elections and Mamata Banerjee has once again become the CM of the state.

She will have to win the fresh MLA election to remain CM and has chosen her traditional seat Bhavanipur for the same. Sitting Trinamool Congress MLA from Bhavanipur seat Shobhandev Chattopadhyay will resign from his MLA and will step down for Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee has been winning from this seat in the past but this time due to the West Bengal assembly elections, the BJP had challenged her to contest against Suvendu Adhikari from Nandigram seat which Mamata Banerjee accepted and contested from Nandigram instead of Bhavanipur seat, but she lost in Nandigram due to Suvendu's popularity.

Shobhandev Chattopadhyay had won the Bhawanipur assembly seat as a TMC candidate in the recent elections. Shobhandev Chattopadhyay had defeated Rudranil Ghosh of BJP. Shobhandev Chattopadhyay got 77505 votes while Rudranil Ghosh got 44785 votes.
