Mumbai : A 55-year-old man threatened to jump off the fifth floor of the Maharashtra secretariat, causing panic for about half an hour before being detained by the police.

At around 3 PM, Arvind Patil, a resident of Satara, entered the secretariat's annexe building in south Mumbai. He went to the fifth floor, climbed onto a window ledge, and sat there, as shown in a video. An official stated that Mr. Patil had been visiting the secretariat for several days and was upset at not being heard. He was demanding an inquiry into potholes and tree felling on the Karad-Chiplun national highway.

The video showed officials pleading with him to get inside, fearing he might fall. Despite their efforts, Mr. Patil threatened to jump, prompting police and fire brigade personnel to rush to the scene. They set up a safety net on the ground to catch him if he jumped. Some fire brigade personnel went to the fifth floor and, after engaging Mr. Patil in conversation, managed to bring him inside. The police then detained him.

Mr. Patil was taken to the Marine Drive police station, where he would be counseled, the official added.
