Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. This is Biren’s first trip to Delhi after being sworn in as Manipur's Chief Minister for the second time.

After taking the oath, Singh stated that his government's top priority would be to make Manipur a corruption-free state, and that he and his team would fight day and night to eradicate corruption from the state."The next task would be to clean up all drug-related matters in the state," he added. "The third task would be to ensure that all rebels operating in the state are brought to the negotiating table and political talks are held with them."

With effect from April 1, the Union Home Ministry designated the whole state of Manipur, excluding the regions within the jurisdiction of 15 police stations, as a "Disturbed Area" for a term of six months.

In the Assembly elections, the BJP won an absolute majority with 32 seats in the 60-member House, retaining power in Manipur. Governor La Ganesan gave the oath to Singh and cabinet ministers Thongam Biswajit Singh, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam, and Nemcha Kipgen, all of the BJP, and Awngbow Newmai, of the Naga People's Front (NPF).

The Congress won five seats, while the NPP took seven. The Naga People's Front received five seats, while the Kuki People's Alliance received two. Three seats were won by independents.

With the assistance of the Naga People's Front (NPF) and the National People's Party (NPP), the BJP formed the previous government in the state, with Biren Singh as Chief Minister.
