N. Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, has threatened to take action against people who are'misusing' social media platforms.

On Friday, Singh said that the government has established a special cybercrime section and that anyone who are caught misusing social media would be prosecuted as soon as possible. After laying the foundation stone for a Haj House in Lilong, Thoubal district, he said this. The chief minister stated that when using social media, everyone should preserve civility and refrain from posting comments that may harm the feelings of others.

Earlier, local agencies in Manipur have charged activists and journalists with breaching the National Security Act (NSA), sedition laws, and other crimes for posting Facebook posts criticising the BJP administration and its officials on a variety of problems. Following Supreme Court and high court orders, the captives were released.
