The fight for power in five states — Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur – has escalated as several regional and national political groups enter the fray. The first phase of the seven-phase assembly elections, for which nominations have been locked in, will take place on February 10. Tomorrow is the last day to withdraw from the second round of voting, which is set for February 14.

The BJP has announced its candidates for all 60 Assembly seats in Manipur,  that go to polls on February 27 and March 3. In the 2018 Assembly elections, Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh will run from the Heingang constituency. Unexpectedly, the BJP has fielded three female candidates in Manipur's upcoming elections.

Union minister Bhupender Yadav expressed confidence in a comfortable victory in the forthcoming Manipur Assembly elections, saying, "The BJP would contest in all 60 seats in the upcoming Manipur Assembly elections and create a government with more than 2/3rd majority."
