After Haryana, Manipur govt showers money on Neeraj Chopra, gives this big award

The Manipur government has decided to give Rs 1 crore as prize money to athlete Neeraj Chopra, who won a gold medal in the javelin throw event of the Tokyo Olympics. The Cabinet of State took a decision on the same on Saturday. Manipur CM N Biren Singh wrote on Twitter on Saturday night, "After 100 years, India won an Olympic gold medal in athletics, on this historic day, the Manipur Pradesh Cabinet has decided to honor Javelin Throw Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra with Rs 1 crore. Best wishes to Neeraj for this historic victory.''

 

 

Neeraj Chopra had won the gold medal by throwing an 87.58m javelin in his second attempt in the final of the Olympic Javelin throw event on Saturday. This is India's first Olympic medal in athletics in more than 100 years. Neeraj became the second Indian to win a personal gold medal at the Olympics.

Earlier, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar also said on Saturday that the state government will give a cash prize of Rs 6 crore to Javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra, who won India's first gold medal in athletics. Khattar also announced that Chopra will be made the head of the Centre of Excellence of Athletics at Panchkula.
