Manipur in grip of cold wave, Senapati shivers at 1.6°C

Manipur’s Senapati district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of  2.29 degrees Celsius on Saturday as the cold wave hits Manipur. Climate Change Cell of the Manipur Directorate of Environment said that this was the lowest minimum temperature among all districts recorded so far this winter.

The minimum temperature in the State has been hovering around 5 to 7 degrees Celsius for the last few days. Chilly winds have been sweeping through the Imphal Valley for the last three days. Mercury has in both the hill and valley districts after the second week of this month.


The maximum temperature of 27.77 degrees Celsius – in the State today was recorded at Noney. Senapati district on Friday had recorded a maximum temperature of 20.93 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 3.88 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Imphal fell to 3.92 degrees Celsius today against Friday’s 7.3 degrees Celsius. Residents here have felt the nippy weather since yesterday. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, the minimum temperature recorded in Imphal on Saturday was 3.2 degrees Celsius. The mercury has gradually gone down in Imphal since Thursday (7.5 degrees Celsius) and Friday (6 degrees Celsius), sources in the Lamphelpat-based Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
