If the Congress wins the assembly election in Manipur, it has pledged to repeal the controversial Armed Forces Act. The Congress party's manifesto, which was released on Friday, included 30 promises, one of which was to repeal the Act. Manipur's 60-member Assembly will hold two-phase elections on February 27 and March 3.

The Manipur Congress has made 30 pledges in its platform, including the protection of linguistic and religious minorities. After the massacre of civilians in Nagaland's Mon district during an alleged "flubbed operation" by Army Para Commandos to target terrorists, a group of citizens protested the controversial AFSPA and urged that it be abolished completely in Nagaland and Manipur.

The Manipur government has extended the state's "disturbed area" designation for one year, with retroactive effect from December 1, 2021. Other promises on the manifesto include a municipal cultural diversity policy, free critical medical treatment for children, the establishment of a Manipur regiment and a Manipur trade centre, compensation for wrongfully detained media persons, and a three-year relaxation of upper age limits for unemployed youths due to the pandemic.
