Market Closing: Sensex, Nifty Slip Into Red, IT,  Metal Stocks Drag

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell more than 100 points on Tuesday, led by losses in metal and information technology stocks. In late trading, the Sensex fell 113 points, or 0.19 percent, to 60,025 points, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 35 points, or 0.19 percent, to 17,895.

In early trading, the NSE Nifty surged past the 18,000-mark, reaching a high of 18,012, but the rally quickly faded, and the index fell to a low of 17,848. The Nifty 50 index ended the day with a 41-point loss, closing at 17,889.

Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, Reliance Industries, HCL Tech, IndusInd Bank, and Nestle India were among the BSE pack's major laggards, with their shares falling as much as 3.06 percent. Maruti Suzuki India, Sun Pharma, Titan, NTPC, SBI, and L&T, on the other hand, rose by as much as 2.35 percent. Nifty Metal and Nifty IT sub-indices on the NSE platform fell as much as 1.09 percent.

The BSE Realty index rose 3.6 percent among sectors. The Auto and Consumer Durables indices both increased by over 1 percent. The Metal index, on the other hand, fell 1.7 percent, while the Energy index fell 1.1 percent.
