Market Gains Amidst Foreign Fund Outflows - Sensex, Nifty Sparkle

The benchmark equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, concluded with gains on Monday, extending the momentum from the previous day's rally. Despite a weak trend in global markets, buying activities in heavyweights such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and Reliance Industries remained robust. However, continuous foreign fund outflows prevented the markets from experiencing a sharp surge.

The 30-share BSE Sensex displayed an impressive performance, climbing 232.23 points (0.35%) to settle at 65,953.48. Throughout the day, it surged even further, reaching 66,067.90, a gain of 346.65 points (0.52 % ).

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty also showed strength, advancing 80.30 points (0.41 % ) to close at 19,597.30.

Among the Sensex pack, Mahindra & Mahindra emerged as the top gainer, surging over 4 % . Notable gainers included Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever, JSW Steel, Wipro, Maruti, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, and ICICI Bank. However, State Bank of India, Tata Motors, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Nestle, and HDFC Bank were among the laggards.

In the Asian markets, Tokyo saw gains, while Seoul, Shanghai, and Hong Kong closed lower. Similarly, European markets traded in the negative territory, and the US markets ended lower on Friday.

On the energy front, the global oil benchmark, Brent crude, experienced a decline of 0.73 % , settling at USD 85.63 per barrel.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs.556.32 crore on Friday, marking a shift from sustained buying over the past five months. During the first week of August, foreign investors withdrew over Rs.2,000 crore from the Indian equities.

After a three-day decline, the BSE benchmark rebounded on Friday, climbing 480.57 points (0.74 % ) to settle at 65,721.25. Similarly, the Nifty showed strength, advancing 135.35 points (0.70 % ) to close at 19,517.
