Market Closing Updates:  The market closed flat on the Weekend as investors' morale was dampened by weak global cues and the intensifying conflict in Ukraine. The BSE Sesex closed at 59,307, up 104 points or 0.18 percent from its intraday high of 59,591 during trading. The Nifty50, on the other hand, reached a high of 17,670 during the day and closed at 17,576, up 12 points or 0.07 percent.

Axis Bank, Hindustan UniLever, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, SBI Life, and Apollo Hospitals also saw increases in the benchmark indices. On downside,  Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Divis Labs, Adan Ports, UPL, Asian Paints, and L&T capped upside.

The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices declined 0.75 percent and 0.66 percent, respectively. The Nifty PSU Bank and Private Bank indices had the biggest gains in their respective sectors, rising 1.8percent and 1.6percent, respectively, while the Nifty Pharma index declined 0.8percent.

Samvat 2078:  Equities were negatively impacted in Samvat 2078 by rising inflation brought on by geopolitical tensions during the Ukraine-Russia war and subsequent monetary policy tightening by global central banks. However, Indian stocks showed resilience, supported by strong retail and HNI participation, growing systematic investment plans (SIPs), and lump-sum inflows that somewhat offset the significant outflows from foreign portfolio investors (FPIs).

In Samvat 2078, the benchmark BSE Sensex and the Nifty50 both declined by 0.7 percent, while the BSE MidCap index dropped by about 4 percent. Meanwhile, the BSE SmallCap index increased by 0.1percent.

Analysts predict that as Samvat 2079 approaches, markets will continue to be under pressure and experience increased volatility due to deteriorating global macroeconomic conditions and ongoing concerns in western countries.
