Share markets took a new stride today with the NSE Nifty closing at 13558, up 0.33 percent while BSE Sensex closed higher by 154 points or 0.34 percent at 46253, which is a new closing high. Stocks from the public sector space, energy and metal pack gained in trade today while there was seen weakness in Auto pack towards the end.
ONGC, Larsen and Toubro, Cipla, and Coal India were top gainers in the Nifty tody while, while losers include Eicher Motors, HeroMotocorp, M&M, HDFC Life and Divis Labs.
Among sectoral indices, PSU Banks and Media stocks outperformed in today's session. Both the respective indices ended with gains of 1.8percent each. The Nifty Metal index was the other sectoral gainer in today's session, closing 1.4percent higher. The index ended at the highest level in two years.
Auto and Real Estate stocks were the losers in today's session. Both the respective indices fell over 1percent in today's session. Broader markets outperformed to start the week on a strong note. The Midcap index gained 0.6percent while the Smallcap index ended 0.8percent higher.
