The company said that by 2020, the electric Maruti WagonR trial will be in the next stage. RC Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki, said, "Electric vehicle work is going on, research and development is going on and it will continue till mass acceptance." He said that the priorities of the government have changed and now more priorities are being given to two-wheelers. Bhargava said, "Electric WagonR is not at such a level that it can be sold commercially."

It is to be noted that at present, the government policy is inclined towards the electrification of two-wheelers and not passenger vehicles. For this reason, Maruti Suzuki is not in a hurry to launch an electric vehicle in the country. Maruti Suzuki Chairman said that it is not that the company is not in a position to launch WagonR Electric in the country.

This only means that as of now there is no infrastructure to support commercial consumption. In such a situation, if the electric WagonR was launched now, it would be very high for the customers. This will further reduce the sentiments of electric vehicles in the country.
