Maruti Suzuki, the leading automaker in India, is gearing up to unveil its debut electric vehicle (EV) named eVX under the prestigious NEXA banner. According to The Hindu Business Line's report on March 26, the eVX is slated for a 2025 release.

Powered by a 60kWh battery pack, the EV is expected to boast an impressive range of up to 550 kilometers. Designed by Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan, Maruti Suzuki intends to position the EV as a 'made-in-India' product for potential export to European and Japanese markets.

Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India, confirmed, "The electric SUV which will be introduced by Maruti Suzuki will be through NEXA."

Maruti Suzuki currently dominates the non-SUV segment in the Indian automotive market, commanding a substantial 65% market share. With ambitions to fortify its presence in the SUV segment, the company aims to capture 50% of the market share in the country.

Despite holding a modest 22% share in the SUV market presently, Maruti Suzuki witnessed a significant uptick in sales last year, buoyed by successful offerings like Jimny, Fronx, Brezza, and Grand Vitara.

Srivastava highlighted the rapid growth of the SUV segment, stating, "The share in the SUV segment was 10.5 per cent until last year which is less than other segments such as hatchbacks, sedans, and MPVs. The SUV segment has been the fastest-growing."

While focusing on bolstering its position in the SUV sector, Maruti Suzuki remains committed to maintaining its foothold in other automotive segments.

It's worth mentioning that NEXA, Maruti Suzuki's premium retail channel, was established in 2015 to cater to its upscale models. Presently, NEXA boasts a customer base of over 1 million and operates across 200 towns and cities nationwide.
