Mumbai: A significant fire erupted at a scrap godown in the Bhiwandi area of Maharashtra on Saturday night, according to fire officer Shailesh Shinde. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far.

Upon receiving the fire call at 11:30 pm, two fire tenders promptly arrived at the scene, initiating efforts to contain the blaze. The fire brigade is currently endeavoring to extinguish the fire, though the cause of the incident remains undetermined.

The godown contained a substantial amount of scrap materials, including wooden ply, plastic items, paper, and cardboard, which fueled the flames. Approximately 15-20 warehouses have been engulfed by the fire, resulting in damage to some four-wheelers as well.

Despite ongoing firefighting efforts, the lack of adequate water sources has posed challenges for the personnel, hindering their ability to control the fire. Fire Officer Shailendra Shinde estimates that it may take up to five to six hours to fully extinguish the blaze once sufficient water resources are secured.

Further updates on the situation are awaited as the firefighting operation continues.
