In the meeting, Mayawati termed the Yogi government's decision as illegal and unconstitutional. The meeting also discussed the strategy for assembly by-elections to be held in the state. Mayawati had already announced that the party would fight the by-election alone before the alliance was broken over the by-elections to the 12 assembly seats of UP. On the other hand, it has now been decided that the party will field its candidates in all the 12 assembly seats after the break-up of the alliance with the SP. The BSP, which won 10 seats in the state in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 with the support of the alliance, is working on a special strategy for the assembly by-elections.
