Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former CM of UP Mayawati on Saturday asked the Modi government of the Center to withdraw its decision on the revised citizenship law and NRC to withdraw its decision. Mayawati wrote in a tweet that, "Now, in the NDA of the Central Government against the CAA and NRC, the voices of opposition are also rising. Therefore, the BSP demands that they abandon their stubbornness and withdraw these decisions. They also appeal to the protesters to express their protest in a peaceful manner."

Mayawati had earlier said in a tweet that the central government in the country and in the larger public interest should take back the new Citizenship Act and focus on removing the national problems of the economy, rising inflation, and unemployment, falling rupee value, etc.

A delegation of BSP met President Ramnath Kovind on Wednesday and raised the issue. The delegation, led by the party's national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra, demanded a judicial inquiry into Sunday's violence in Jamia Millia Islamia. It also demanded the withdrawal of the Citizenship Act.
