Meerut: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have been stopped by the police on the Meerut border. The two leaders were going to meet the families of those killed in the violence during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Some protesters were also killed in a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The police stopped Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra from going to Meerut, after which both returned to Delhi. Top Congress leaders against the CAA performed a satyagraha on Monday at the Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi site in Rajghat. All the leaders including Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi performed Satyagraha. Hundreds of party supporters were also sitting on the dharna along with these leaders.

Protests against the Citizenship Act are taking place in several districts of Uttar Pradesh. During the demonstrations, the number of people who died in the violence in Meerut on Friday has increased to five. 35 policemen were also injured in the violence in Meerut on Friday and they are being treated in different hospitals. As of now, 102 people have been arrested in these cases and efforts are on to identify the remaining people and arrest them.
