Meghalaya brings in new norms for migrants entering the state

Meghalaya is now planning to welcome its migrants. Amid the ongoing surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya, the state government on Tuesday issued guidelines and protocol measures for migrants to the State. All those migrants who wish to enter the State with a planned duration of stay of 3 days or less will have to register on the website http://www.meghalayaonline.gov.in/covid/testing.htm stated the notification that was undersigned by Sampath Kumar, Commissioner & Secretary in charge, Health & Family Welfare Department of Meghalaya.

The government notification further stated that those people who are interested in visiting the state shall possess a valid return ticket (air/rail). Those intending to travel by road shall have to mention the vehicle number that they shall return in. The notification further added, "If they possess a COVID-19 NEGATIVE RTPCR report from a recognized laboratory for which sample collection time is within 72 hours from the time of arrival, they will be exempted from the rapid antigen testing usually done on all entrants."

Migrants have to avail convenience only at assigned hotels and guest house or government agency run guesthouses that have been approved by the Government of Meghalaya, the new guideline stated. The notification further said, "They have to arrange and book for the same prior to their arrival. They have to keep a note of all the places that have been visited during their Stay. They have to restrict their movements and meet as few people as possible following all health advisories. They have to download Aarogya Setu App and display the same at the entry points. They have to arrange for their own transportation with the same vehicle for their movements during their duration of stay."
