NEW DELHI: Meghalaya's Chief Minister, K Sangma, along with his cabinet colleagues, paid a visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday. This visit from the leader of the northeastern state was marked by the presence of Thomas A Sangma, the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, and various state ministers.

Taking to Twitter, CM Sangma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his unwavering support towards Meghalaya. He shared, "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Honorable PM, Shri @narendramodi, for his consistent support to the welfare of Meghalaya. Today, I had the privilege of meeting him along with the esteemed Speaker, Shri Thomas A Sangma, and my fellow cabinet members."

Earlier during the day, CM Sangma took a proactive step by submitting a formal letter to Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar. In his letter, he earnestly requested Minister Tomar's intervention to address the concerns of students from Meghalaya. Specifically, these are the students who are currently in their fourth year of pursuing BSc. Agriculture at the Central Agricultural University (CAU) located in Imphal, Manipur.

The crux of CM Sangma's request lay in seeking a temporary solution for these students amidst the ongoing challenges. He urged Minister Tomar to use his influence to facilitate an interim arrangement that would allow these students to carry out their Rural Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) Program in Meghalaya. He further advocated for the students to be permitted to undertake their RAWE program under the guidance of CAU's Kyrdemkulai campus in Imphal.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Conrad Sangma passionately appealed to Minister Tomar. He proposed the relocation of all Meghalayan students studying at CAU Imphal to the CAU Campus situated in Kyrdemkulai, Meghalaya. The objective behind this suggestion was to offer these students a secure and uninterrupted learning environment. This approach would be particularly vital given the turmoil and disruptions caused by the prevailing unrest in Manipur.

CM Sangma's efforts reflected his commitment to the educational well-being of Meghalayan students, even in challenging times. This collaborative endeavor between the Chief Minister and Union Minister Tomar showcased a dedicated pursuit of solutions to ensure that education remains unaffected by external circumstances. The visit to Prime Minister Modi further solidified the alignment of central and state leadership in the pursuit of Meghalaya's progress and the holistic development of its people.
