 Twelve deaths due to Covid-19 related complications raised the fatality figure to 1,085 and 686 new cases of infection added up to 5,966 active cases in Meghalaya on Saturday while 499 more recoveries took the number of recovered cases to 57,949.

“The deaths due to Covid-19 infection recorded on saturday were nine in East Khasi Hills, two in Ri-Bhoi and one in West Khasi Hills,” a senior official in the state directorate of health services said. The new Covid-19 cases detected on Saturday included 219 in East Khasi Hills, 187 in West Khasi Hills, 83 in West Garo Hills, 59 in West Jaintia Hills, 53 in Ri-Bhoi, 31 in South West Khasi Hills, 20 in East Jaintia Hills, 12 in South Garo Hills, nine in South West Garo Hills, seven in North Garo Hills and six cases in East Garo Hills, the health official informed.

As per data released by the National Health Mission, Meghalaya, 844473 persons have been tested for Covid-19 in the state till Saturday, of whom 779473 tested negative. With rise in Covid-19 cases across the state, containment measures, including restriction on movement of vehicles and night curfew are being implemented by all the district administrations.
