Meghalaya: As per the latest trend shared by the Election Commission on Thursday, the United Democratic Party (UDP) was leading in 5 of the 59 Assembly constituencies of Meghalaya, while the ruling National People's Party (NPP) was leading in 11. The BJP and the Congress are each in the lead with three seats, while the Trinamool Congress was in the lead with two.
As per information provided by the EC around 10 am, Nihim D Shira of the National People's Party was trailing Trinamool Congress state chief and former chief minister Mukul Sangma by a margin of 457 in Songsak.
Tengrak R. Marak of the TMC was trailing Pongseng Marak of the NPP by a margin of 794 in the Bajengdoba constituency.
In Jirang, Sosthenes Sohtun of the NPP was ahead of Adrian Lambert Mylliem of the Congress by a margin of 1,015 votes.
By 8 am, counting began in each of the 13 centres. Prior to the polled votes were counted in the EVM Control Units, the postal ballots were first counted for the first 30 minutes.
Shillong has the most counting halls in the state with 14, one for each assembly constituency.
The second-largest counting centre in the state, West Garo Hills District Counting Centre serves 11 assembly districts.
Almost 500 micro observers are assisting the Counting Observers at each table, and the Election Commission has deployed 27 Counting Observers.
