Shillong: Five people lost their lives and 21 were injured when a jeep overturned in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills on Monday (20 February). North Garo Hills police chief Shailendra Bamnia said that several people were seriously injured and have been referred to Goalpara Hospital in Assam for treatment. A police officer has informed that the occupants of the jeep were going to Adogare village to attend an election rally, where former CM Mukul Sangma was about to address the gathering. An investigation has been started to find out the cause of the accident.

Police have identified the deceased women as Marina Sangma, Sabina Marak, Kukila Momin, Tessa Sangma, and Sosin Marak.
