NEW DELHI: Aftab Ameen Poonawalla's police custody was extended by five more days by a Delhi court on Thursday. Poonawalla was detained after being accused of killing his live-in lover Shraddha Walkar and dismembering her body into 35 pieces.

Following the court's consideration of the threats to his life and security concerns, Poonawalla was virtually brought before the Saket district court.

A large group of lawyers reportedly protested outside a courtroom demanding the death penalty for the accused.
On the basis of the Delhi Police's argument that Poonawalla was not complying with the inquiry, the court authorised a narco test of him on Wednesday.

He was also escorted by the police the day before to the Chhattarpur home in south Delhi that he shared with Walkar in order to reenact the crime. According to sources, Poonawalla informed the detectives that she had left the residence on May 22 when he first called for him to be questioned.

"However, even though Poonwalla claimed to have merely stolen her phone, her possessions were still at the residence. Additionally, he claimed that they had not spoken since she left "said a source.

In response to intense interrogation and the use of digital evidence, such as her Instagram account, which revealed the location of the Mehrauli area, the investigators finally came to the conclusion that Poonawalla had killed the victim and then chopped her body into 35 pieces. On November 12, he was arrested.
