PERIODS ARE NORMAL

“MENSTRUATION” is a word to change people’s perceptions. It is happening all over the world. It has happened to so many people who menstruate. This is compounded by the fact that our society stigmatizes menstruation- or really anything about menstruation and a taboo hang over a discussion. The onset of menstruation can be challenging for young women in low-middle-income counties. Specific menstrual hygiene management challenges young women face in schools include inadequate clean n safe washrooms, lack of running water, menstrual supplies, or products, and teasing from male peers and around the society. In society, it has been observed that many of menstruators use a piece of cloth instead of sanitary napkins (pads).

Every month, millions of women around the world experience menstruation, a natural and essential part of their reproductive health. However, despite being a common occurrence, periods are often shrouded in myths, stigma, and discomfort. After observing what menstruator face problems some NGOs started giving solutions. Some solutions are:

1) Knowledge and skills of menstruators

2) Supplying menstruators products

3) Period-friendly campaigns n events

4) Build an association with the medical community

5) Started interacting and normalizing conversations do not that people don’t hesitate and reduce shame and stigma about periods.

Society primarily supports the government in building national strategies across sectors like health n education, that account for menstrual hygiene. Some NGOs recognize and implement special efforts to reach out to girls from minority groups, and transgender and non-binary menstruators.

We need to address the stigma around menstruation in order to understand and fix the challenges people face around access to menstrual products. Some NGOs offer period products like:

1) Pads – understanding the various pad options, including disposal and reusable pads, and tips for finding the right fit and absorbency level.

2) Tampons – exploring different types of tampons available, their pros n cons, and tips for comfortable insertion n removal.

3) Menstrual cups- an in-depth guide to menstrual cups, their benefits, and how to use n clean them.

4) Period underwear- exploring the advantages of period underwear, choosing the right style, and tips for care n maintenance.

The main solution to this problem is sanitary napkins should be available free of charge in schools, malls, colleges, and many more.

Period poverty is real, and period equity should also be real to embarrassment may prevent people from advocating for themselves but if stigma is removed or even eased by talking through issues.  We can move forward to address the need of the society.

It’s time to create a period-friendly society where menstruation is celebrated, not shamed. By understanding our bodies, breaking a taboo, and prioritizing comfort, we can empower ourselves and others to embrace periods with confidence. Together, let’s create an inclusive and supportive environment where every woman feels comfortable discussing and managing her period without hestiation.
