Ranchi:  A case of rape of a mentally challenged 23-year-old girl has come to light in a village located in Gumla, Jharkhand. This incident happened on Thursday (May 4) late night. Apart from rape, the victim was also brutally assaulted. Police has admitted her to Gumla Sadar Hospital for treatment. The victim had not regained consciousness till the filing of this report. The police considering it a case of rape, is probing the matter. The family members of the victim have told that there was a marriage ceremony in the village on Thursday. Other family members including the victim's mother had gone to the wedding. 

Relatives have told that during this time some youths started knocking on the door of the house at around 11 o'clock in the night. The miscreants kept banging on the door for about half an hour. The nearby villagers also heard it, but no one came out of the house due to fear. At the same time, the villagers have expressed apprehension that it is possible that after some time the victim girl may have opened the door of the house. After this, the youth who banged on the door picked up the victim and took her to the village pond, and raped her. On protesting against the rape, she was brutally beaten up and left half-dead. 

In the morning, when the villagers saw the girl unconscious near the pond, they informed the Gumla police station. On receiving the information, Gumla police station in-charge Vinod Kumar along with the police team reached the spot and took the victim to Sadar hospital for treatment. When asked about this, he told that it seems to be a case of rape. The victim is currently in a state of unconsciousness. She is undergoing treatment at Sadar Astpal. Police is probing the matter.
