SRINAGAR: In Jammu and Kasmir and Ladakh,  Mercury is seen in free fall.  Due to a clear night sky, night temperatures plunged across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Tuesday, with Drass town being the coldest at minus 18.4.

Due to a bright night sky on Tuesday, minimum temperatures in the two union territories of J&K and Ladakh decreased, according to a Meteorological Department (MeT) official. "Drass, Ladakh's coldest town, had a minimum temperature of - 18.4 degrees Celsius, while Leh's was minus 12.1 degrees and Kargil's was minus 9.6 degrees. "The minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 1.4, Pahalgam was negative 4.8, and Gulmarg was minus 7.0.

Meanwhile, According to official documents the J&K administration has transferred 135.57 hectares of forest land in Jammu’s Chowadhi, one of the few carbon sinks in Jammu other than the Raika forests, to the Border Security Force (BSF) for building a long-range small arms training ground.
