USA: People with knowledge of the situation claim that Meta Platforms has begun implementing the job cuts that the dominant social media company announced earlier this week, beginning with 1,500 employees in recruiting and human resources.
The chief executive officer of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, told employees during an internal meeting that layoffs and restructuring could continue for "many years," according to the people, who asked not to be named because the conversation was private.
According to the people, the first round of cuts were explained to Meta executives on Thursday morning.

On March 14, Zuckerberg announced that Meta planned to fire 10,000 workers and close 5,000 positions; however, not all those affected have received notice as of this writing. For instance, April is going to see layoffs in engineering. 11% of the company's workforce, or 11,000 people, were let go in November.

According to the people, Zuckerberg told his staff on Thursday that while the earlier layoffs were motivated by financial necessity and product priorities, the more recent ones were more closely related to performance. A Meta representative declined to offer any commentary on the cuts.
