E Sreedharan, who is going to step into politics by joining BJP in the coming week, said on Friday that his main goal is to bring the party to power in Kerala and he will be ready to take over as CM. He said that if the BJP wins the assembly elections in April-May this year, then they may have to focus on developing infrastructure on a large scale and removing the state from the debt trap. It has been learned that Sreedharan, who is known as 'Metro Man' and has shown his skill in the development of big infrastructure-related projects, told PTI that if the party wants it I will contest the assembly elections and if the party says to handle CM post then I will.
Sreedharan (88) has clarified that he is not interested in assuming the post of Governor. He said that this is a purely constitutional post and there is no power and he will not be able to make any positive contribution for the state by staying on such post. He said, "My main objective is to bring BJP to power in Kerala. If BJP wins elections in Kerala, there will be three to four areas on which we want to focus." This includes the development of infrastructure on a large scale and bringing industries into the state.
According to the information received, Sreedharan, living in Ponnali, Kerala, said on the phone that a finance committee is also going to be set up to improve the financial condition of the state trapped in the debt trap. He said, "Today the state is trapped in debt, a lot of credits are pending. Today, every Malayali has a debt of 1.2 lakh rupees. This means we are moving towards bankruptcy and the government is still borrowing. There is a need to improve the financial condition of the state and we can find a solution to it."
