America; Microsoft is pushing a software update tomorrow that will shut down Internet Explorer on Windows 10. (14 February). Despite the company discontinuing software support for the app last year, the browser continues to function on previous operating systems. On Windows 10 PC, when users click on the Internet Explorer icon they will be redirected to Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft will end software support for Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022. The organization announced in December last year that it would stop supporting the web browser on February 14, 2023.

Visual cues such as icons and Start menu items will still be apparent even when the browsing app is disabled. They will be removed from the monthly security updates in June 2023.

Internet Explorer was not included in the late 2021 release of Windows 11. Clicking on the app icon will direct users to Microsoft Edge on their devices running this version of the OS, while it is still available on Windows 10. The company announced that Microsoft Edge updates, not Windows Updates, would be used to disable the browser. ,

To enable users to access websites built using dated Internet Explorer technology, Microsoft has added a legacy feature called IE Mode to the Edge browser. To start, simply click on the "Reload in IE Mode" button.

Users are being actively encouraged by Microsoft to switch to Microsoft Edge in IE mode.
To switch to IE mode if already using the Edge browser, go to (Edge: / Settings / DefaultBrowser) and use the search bar to look for "IE Mode".

Restart the browser after turning on the toggle to allow websites to reload in Internet Explorer mode.

Microsoft has advised enterprise administrators to switch from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge with IE Mode to avoid "massive business disruption if they lose access to IE11-dependent applications".
