The Ministry of Human Resource Development has now been renamed as Ministry of Education. This decision has been taken during the meeting of PM Modi cabinet. During the meeting, the Modi government has also approved the new education policy. Detailed information about this will be given by the government in the cabinet briefing to be held at 4 pm.

It is to be noted that the Ministry of Human Resource Development had proposed that the present name of the ministry be changed to the Ministry of Education. The Modi cabinet has approved this proposal. New education policy has also been approved. Now there will be only one regulatory body for the entire higher education so that the mismanagement in the education sector can be eliminated.

The Ministry of Education has set a single regulatory body 'National Higher Education Regulatory Authority (NHERA) or Higher Education Commission of India' for higher education. The National Education Policy was formulated in the year 1986 and some changes were made in the year 1992. No major changes have been made even after three centuries. The Central Government believes that there is a need for change at the level of education so that the country can become a superpower of knowledge in the world. For this, there is a need to provide good quality education to all so that a dynamic and progressive society can be created. The emphasis is being laid on preparing a new national curriculum framework to improve the quality of education being imparted at the primary level of the education ministry.
