'Stop wasteful expense of printing own diaries, calendars' Govt directs to ministries

The current government of India has ordered all central ministries and departments to stop publishing their diaries and calendars. This leads to waste of money. In its place diaries and calendars published by the Information and Broadcasting Department can be used. Along with extravagance, it also causes significant damage to trees.

For your information, let us tell you that last month, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba had instructed all the concerned secretaries heading the ministries to strictly follow the new order. The letter written in this regard states that the responsibility of the Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is to make available to the Ministries, Departments and Public Sector Undertakings by publishing government calendars and diaries.

Regarding the matter, the top bureaucrat wrote, 'However, it has been observed that apart from supplies made by various ministries, departments, public sector undertakings and organizations under their administrative control, the publication of calendars, desk calendars and diaries are doing. This is causing duplication and waste of money. In such a situation, you may not see different diaries and calendars of different ministries in the coming years.
