Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, aged 74, is set to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema. The announcement was made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who shared the news on social media, highlighting Mithun Da's inspiring journey in the film industry.

Vaishnaw expressed, "Mithun Da’s cinematic journey has inspired generations! The Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has chosen to honour him for his iconic role in shaping Indian cinema."

Earlier this year, Chakraborty was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, adding to his list of accolades.

Mithun Chakraborty began his film career in 1976 with the National Award-winning movie Mrigayaa, directed by Mrinal Sen, for which he received his first National Film Award for Best Actor. He quickly rose to fame in the 1980s with films like Surakshaa (1979), followed by major hits such as Disco Dancer, Dance Dance, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, and Commando, among others.

The award will be presented to him during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024.
