Polling for Aizawl Municipal Corporation AMC will be held on February 16 and counting will be conducted on February 18. 66 candidates have filed their nomination papers for AMC Polls.

Secretary of Mizoram State Election Commission – Teresy Vanlalhruaii said that the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Congress and Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) have fielded 19 candidates each, while the BJP is contesting in only 9 seats. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for February 1. There are 19 seats in AMC, of which 6 are reserved for women.

This time MNF, Congress and ZPM will fight each other in the municipal. A total of 2,18,870 electorates including 1,17,191 female voters will decide the fate of 66 candidates. Polling will be held in 274 polling stations from 7am to 4pm.

The previous AMC term ended on December 10, 2020. In 2015 municipal polls, the MNF had secured a clear majority by bagging 11 seats, while the Congress bagged 7 seats and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) had won one seat.
