Mizoram has not been able to curb rising COVID-19 cases till date: Zoram People's Movement

Aizawl: Joram People's Movement (ZPM) Legislature Party leader Lalduhoma said that the ruling Mizo National Front government has completely failed in COVID-19 management despite strong support from people, especially churches and NGOs. According to the ZPM leader, "Despite keeping the dubious distinction of imposing the longest lockdown in the world, Mizoram cannot curb the rising COVID-19 cases till date," he said. He said that the recovery rate from Kovid-19 in Mizoram on Friday was 81.56 percent, which was comparatively lower than the national average of 97.48 percent.

The Congress also said that the state government has failed miserably in curbing the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. The party said the prolonged lockdown, which has been imposed since April, severely crippled the state's economy. It appealed again to the Health Minister to relinquish his office on the ground of moral responsibility for the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.

Meanwhile, R. Lalthangliana reiterated that Mizoram is one of the best performing states in the country in terms of COVID-19 management and vaccination. He said that the state tops the northeastern states in COVID-19 tests as 9 tests for COVID-19 More than one lakh samples have been tested, which is 82 per cent of its population based on the 2011 census. He claimed that the COVID-19 detection rate was high due to good performance and high test number of samples. According to the health minister, Mizoram now ranks 8th in vaccination as 85 per cent of the target population has been vaccinated.
