Mizoram: No permission to reopen educational institutions in AMC area

Aizawl: The Mizoram government has issued an order related to COVID, saying, partial lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area and some COVID related restrictions in other parts of the state has been extended till September 18. Educational institutions have not been allowed to reopen in the AMC area, while schools and colleges in COVID-free areas in other parts of the state have been allowed to resume physical classes, the official said.

Permission has been given to reopen places of worship in COVID free areas outside Aizawl city. However, churches will remain closed for worship services in the AMC area. At least 444 people, including 99 children, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Mizoram, taking the state's tally to 64,228, a health department official said on Monday.

The total death toll rose to 224 with the death of a 79-year-old man at Joram Medical College (ZMC) on Sunday night, he said. The state recorded a single-day positivity rate of 21.66 per cent as fresh cases were detected from 2,050 samples. Aizawl district recorded the highest number of 344 cases, followed by Mamit district at 52 and Lunglei district at 26, the official said. Mizoram now has 10,538 Covid-19 active cases, while 53,466 people have recovered from the infection so far, including 885 as of Sunday.
