Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal MLA Bijay Shankar Das forgot to come for the registration of his own marriage in Odisha. A month ago, the MLA along with his girlfriend had also applied for it. Now, on the complaint of the girlfriend, the police have registered a case against the MLA.

According to reports, the marriage of Bijay Shankar Das, MLA of Tirtol constituency, was to be registered at the sub-registrar office in Jagatsinghpur on Friday. Girlfriend Somalika had reached the office on time, but neither the MLA nor any of her family members came there. After waiting for about 3 hours, a disappointed Somalika had to leave the registrar's office.

The girl has accused the MLA of not coming to the office of the Registrar of Marriages on Friday after making a promise. A case in this regard was registered against the MLA and his family members at Sadar police station in the city. The victim claimed in her complaint that she was in a relationship with Das for 3 years. The MLA has cheated and harassed her. It also alleged that Tirtol MLA Bijay Shankar did not keep his promise and was not answering his phone calls. The MLA's relatives and his family are also accused of threatening the girl. Somalika said, "We had applied for marriage registration at the sub-registrar's office on May 17. Bijay had also promised me, that we will have a court marriage on this day at the sub-registrar's office. But he didn't keep his promise.'' The same Bijay Shankar vehemently rejected the allegations levelled against him in a discussion with the local media over the phone. BJD MLA Das said, "As per rules, the registration of marriage has to be completed within 90 days of applying. We still have 60 days left for that. I have not received any news from anyone regarding the registration of the marriage today.''
