NEW DELHI: The Mukyamantri Tirath Yatra (MMTY) scheme of the Delhi Government resumed its service on Monday, 26 June. A special train carrying more than  600 passengers left for Dwarkadish from Sadfarjung. Reports state that this is the 72nd trip under the scheme.

On 26th June, the Delhi Government reinitiated the Mukyamantri Tirath Yatra (MMTY) scheme, providing an opportunity for senior citizens to embark on a spiritual journey. A dedicated train, accommodating over 600 passengers, departed from Sadfarjung and headed towards Dwarkadish. It's worth noting that this marks the 72nd trip organized under this remarkable scheme.

The MMTY scheme was introduced by the Kejriwal government back in 2018. It offers a free pilgrimage experience to individuals aged 60 and above, along with their accompanying attendants. Although the scheme was temporarily suspended during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has now been reinstated.

Initially, the scheme encompassed five pilgrimage sites. However, as time passed, numerous additional sacred destinations were included. The train that set off on 26th June towards Dwarkadish is scheduled to return to Delhi on 1st July. During this sacred expedition, the pilgrims will have the opportunity to visit two significant Jyotirlingas in Dwarka and Gujarat, namely Somnath and Nageshwar.

The Mukyamantri Tirath Yatra scheme encompasses various expenses, including the cost of food, lodging, and travel arrangements, which consist of AC trains and accommodations. All these expenditures are fully covered by the Delhi Government. In April 2022, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that more than 40,000 individuals had already benefited from the Tirth Yatra scheme.

Pilgrims are offered the opportunity to visit several prominent locations under the Mukyamantri Tirath Yatra scheme, including Jagganath Puri, Rameshwaram, Kartarpur Sahib, Ayodhya, Velankanni, Shirdi, Mathura, Haridwar, Tirupati Balaji, Vaishno Devi, and many others.

What's included in the travel package? Under the Mukyamantri Tirath Yatra scheme, senior citizens who participate receive accommodation, meals, and insurance coverage. The Delhi Government takes care of all the expenses associated with the pilgrimage, including travel, food, and accommodation charges. Moreover, facilities such as paramedical staff and attendants are provided throughout the journey.

The scheme is open to senior citizens aged 60 and above. Each traveler is The Mukyamantri Tirath Yatra scheme welcomes senior citizens aged 60 and above to apply. Accompanying each traveler, an attendant aged 21 or older can also join the pilgrimage. The Delhi Government covers all expenses for the attendant as well. It is important to note that both the senior citizen and the attendant should be residents of Delhi. Reports indicate that the scheme can be availed only once in a lifetime. To apply, interested citizens need to submit their applications through the Delhi Government's e-District portal.
