Disney and Dwayne Johnson are working together to create a live-action version of the 2016 animated musical hit "Moana."

Johnson, Dany, and Hiram Garcia will produce the new movie through their Seven Bucks Productions, while Beau Flynn will do it through Flynn Picture Co. Auliai Cravalho, who provided Moana's voice in the original movie, and Scott Sheldon of Flynn Film Co. are executive producers. The production will also feature Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, a prominent Samoan businesswoman.

As it presented the tale of a young woman who defied her father, the chief of an island suffering with an imminent ecological disaster, and set out on a mission to reunite a mystical relic with its owner, a goddess named Te Fiti, "Moana" drew inspiration from Polynesian tales. Along the journey, she frees Maui from his island jail, is kidnapped by a gigantic crab, and gathers the courage to develop into the chief her father had envisioned for her.
